Behind the Shot: Nova

Nova Scotia - Kejimkujik National Park

To ancient Chinese fancy, the Milky Way was a luminous river,  - the River of Heaven, - the Silver Stream, Lafcadio Hearn

Being in Nova Scotia and away from the light pollution of the East Coast always reveals great beauty in our skies. Kejimkujik National Park is an amazing place for astrophotography and is actually designated a Dark Sky Preserve.

As I parked my car and started gathering my gear for the trek, in the parking lot, I saw a sign warning visitors to the park about Bear activity - which really scared me! Even this dire warning could not deter me from my mission and neither could the millions of bugs - which seemed as plentiful as the stars and were everywhere because of the unseasonably warm weather. I climbed through the trail and when I reached the right spot behind the giant evergreens, I was able to get this shot which was truly a happy accident.

If you look up at the Milky Way, you get a feeling in your chest of something greater than yourself. And it is.
